Unboxing & Initial Impressions
The retail box for the vivo X300 Pro is dense and packed with actually useful accessories.
- What’s in the box: Alongside the phone, you get the 90W FlashCharge brick, a high-quality USB-C to USB-C cable, and a surprisingly decent color-matched silicone case.
- Screen Protector: It comes with a factory-applied plastic screen protector. I highly recommend leaving this on until it gets excessively scratched, as finding good curved glass protectors can be difficult.
Data Transfer
Moving from my old phone to the X300 Pro was straightforward.
- The Tool: I used vivo’s official EasyShare app. You install it on your old phone, scan a QR code, and it handles the rest locally over a Wi-Fi direct connection.
- The Process: It successfully moved my contacts, messages, and most apps. However, I always prefer to start fresh with my photo library, so I transferred my old photos to my PC rather than cluttering up the new 512GB storage drive.
- WhatsApp: WhatsApp data did not transfer via EasyShare (it rarely does across brands). I had to rely on the standard Google Drive backup process during the initial WhatsApp login.
Network Setup
Depending on where you bought the device, configuring the network might require a quick check.
- Physical SIM: The vivo X300 Pro dual SIM tray allows for two physical nano-SIM cards, which is perfect for separating my business and personal numbers.
- eSIM Support: If you travel frequently, note that the vivo X300 Pro eSIM capabilities can vary heavily by region (the Chinese ROM version often omits eSIM support entirely, whereas global versions usually include it). Always check your specific model number before buying a digital travel plan.
Fixing Notifications (Crucial for OriginOS)
If you are using the Chinese ROM (OriginOS 6), the OS is notoriously aggressive about putting background apps to sleep to save battery. If you skip this step, you will miss emails and messages.
Here is how I ensure I get my notifications instantly:
- Unrestricted Battery: Go to
Settings > Battery > Background power consumption management. Find your essential apps (WhatsApp, Gmail, Telegram) and set them to “Do not restrict background power usage.” - Auto-Start: Go to
Settings > Apps > Auto-startand toggle on the apps that need to wake up the phone when a message arrives. - Lock in Recents: Swipe up to open the recent apps multitasking view. Swipe down on the app card (e.g., WhatsApp) and tap the padlock icon. This prevents the OS from clearing it when you tap “Clear All.”
