I get a lot of messages on my social channels about this phone. Instead of answering them one by one, I’ve compiled the most common questions here. Every answer is based on my actual, daily experience with the vivo X300 Pro.
Software & Global Usability
Does the global version have OriginOS or FuntouchOS?
If you import the phone from China, it will run OriginOS 6. If you buy it in global markets (like Europe or India), it will run FuntouchOS. My unit is the Chinese model running OriginOS 6. While OriginOS has more customization, it requires more setup out of the box to get notifications working properly.
Are notifications reliable on the Chinese ROM (OriginOS)?
Out of the box, no. OriginOS aggressively kills background apps to save battery. However, it is an easy fix. You have to manually go into the battery settings and give apps like WhatsApp and Gmail unrestricted background usage. Once I did this, my notifications have been 100% reliable. Battery & Charging
How is the battery drain overnight?
It is phenomenal. With Wi-Fi on and my smartwatch connected via Bluetooth, I lose exactly 2% to 3% over an 8-hour sleep cycle. The Dimensity 9500 chip manages standby power incredibly well.
Does it support wireless charging?
Yes. It supports up to 40W proprietary wireless charging, though you need vivo’s specific wireless stand to hit those speeds. On a standard Qi wireless charger on my desk, it charges at a normal, slower rate, which is perfect for topping up during the workday. For more details on charging speeds, see my Battery Tests.
Camera & Photography
Is the 200MP camera a gimmick?
Absolutely not. While I don’t shoot in the full 200MP resolution mode very often (the files are massive), the sheer size of the sensor allows for incredible pixel-binning. This means that when you shoot a standard 12MP or 50MP photo at 5x or 10x zoom, the phone has so much data to work with that the image remains incredibly sharp. It is the best telephoto lens I have ever used on a phone.
Can you turn off the ZEISS watermark?
Yes. I always turn it off. It is easily disabled in the camera settings menu (the gear icon in the top right of the viewfinder).
