> My initial thoughts after unboxing and using the vivo X300 Pro for the first time.

As someone who used to carry around a heavy Canon EOS 70D DSLR for my photography hobby, I have very high standards for what constitutes a "good" camera. But I also run a digital marketing business, which means I need a device that is practical to carry every single day.

Here are my unedited, day-one first impressions of the vivo X300 Pro.

## In-Hand Feel and Weight Balance

The moment I took the phone out of the box, I was struck by the build quality. Despite packing a massive [6,510 mAh Silicon-Anode battery](/battery/), the phone feels remarkably sleek.

The weight balance is excellent. The circular ZEISS camera housing gives the phone a top-heavy look, but the [hardware specifications](/specifications/) reveal an evenly distributed 226g chassis. Compared to lugging a Canon DSLR in a dedicated bag, sliding the [200MP APO periscope hardware](/camera/) directly into my pocket is liberating. I also paired it with high-grip protection from day one (evaluated in our [best cases and accessories guide](/blog/vivo-x300-pro-best-cases-accessories/)).

## OriginOS 6 Smoothness

Setting up the device involves a quick [first-day setup procedure](/setup/) to enable Google framework services and configure background sync.

Once configured on the home screen, the fluidity of [OriginOS 6](/software/) immediately stands out. The animations are tactile and responsive, complemented by dynamic [OriginOS 6 tips and tricks](/blog/vivo-x300-pro-tips-and-tricks/) like Atomic Widgets and custom lock screen typography. The [1.5K 120Hz LTPO display](/display/) makes scrolling through test shots seamless.

## Day One Battery Confidence

Day-one battery testing is typically demanding because the phone is actively indexing data and downloading background updates. Despite this heavy workload, the [BlueVolt battery architecture](/battery/) held up effortlessly, supported by rapid [90W FlashCharge](/90w-flashcharge/) top-ups.

Subsequent real-world tests are cataloged in our [field battery test log](/blog/battery-test-log/), [camera sample archive](/blog/camera-sample-log/), and our [6-month long-term camera verdict](/blog/vivo-x300-pro-camera-6-months-later/).

## 24-Hour Verdict: Is the X300 Pro a True DSLR Alternative?

The initial 24 hours confirmed the viability of moving from a dedicated mirrorless setup to a pocketable flagship. The complete long-term evaluation is detailed in our [vivo X300 Pro review](/vivo-x300-pro-review/).
